About the courses

The International School of Languages currently provides adult group courses to learn a variety of different world languages.

Online Learning Overview

Our live virtual group courses are taught over zoom. You will be learning from the comfort and convenience of your home or office. Every week, you will virtually attend a class session at the same time as your instructor and classmates. The class is a firm, weekly time commitment that cannot be rescheduled. You will have some assignments to complete outside of class time to help prepare you to participate in the next class. This kind of preparation from students, along with a dedicated agenda set by the instructor, ensures each class session is interactive and productive.

Course Content

Our language courses combine a diversity of teaching techniques that focus on a communicative approach and provide students with the necessary skills and concepts to feel comfortable to speak and understand others in a foreign language environment. It offers our students the perfect mix of grammar, reading, writing, listening, speaking and vocabulary to help them understand and perfect their use of the language. We like to engage students and give them opportunities not only to learn the language but also to learn about different cultures and traditions of the foreign countries in particular.

Materials

We carefully select materials that are easy to use and offer a solid didactic sequence to use during class time and on your own.

Instructors

Our instructors love teaching their native language! They are experienced, fun, and energetic, and take very seriously your goals and commitments.

Size

The classes are small. Typically between 2 and 6 students. This gives us the opportunity to work in a more personable way with each student in the class. We make sure that everybody is making progress and that everyone practice their speaking skills!

Structure

Classes meet once a week for 1.5 hours. Sessions are 8 week long. Students are welcome to join the sessions at any time as long as their proficiency level meets the level of the class. Payment will be prorated for the classes missed at the point students enroll.

Make ups

If students miss a class, the student can join another class the same week of the same or similar level. If there is no class available, a make-up class can be arranged for a discounted private lesson rate. This discounted rate is provided only to students enrolled in a group adult class, and for the sole purpose of making up for a missed class.

Course Levels

Our class levels follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), a framework devised by the Council of Europe to reflect linguistic standards for learning all European languages.

Session Format

• Group courses are online.
• Our sessions are 8 weeks long.
• Class size is 2 to 6 students.
• Classes meet once a week.
• Classes are 1.5 hours long.

Enrollment and Tuition

• Sessions are ongoing. Students may join at anytime as long as proficiency levels meet the course level.
• Payments will be prorated for classes missed upon enrollment.
• Payment must be made in full before the beginning of the session.
• An installment payment plan can be offered upon request.
• Payments can be made with credit card or check. There is a $25 fee for returned checks.

Refunds and Credits Policy

• Students canceling one week or more before the course start date will receive a 90% tuition refund.
• Students canceling between one week prior to the course start date and one week after the course has commenced are eligible for an 80% credit toward future classes.
• No credits or refunds will be issued for cancellations occurring one week after the course start date.
• All refund and credit requests must be submitted in writing to ISL within the specified timeframes mentioned above.
• No refunds or credits will be given for absences
• No refunds or credits available for books and materials.

Make-up for Missed Classes

• In the event of a class cancellation due to unforeseen circumstances, ISL will arrange a make-up class, and all students will be notified. Unfortunately, no alternative make-up dates will be provided for students who cannot attend the rescheduled session.
• If a student misses a class:
  • Please note that individual students who miss a class will not have make-up classes scheduled for them. However, if a recording of the missed class is available, we can provide it for their review.
  • Students are eligible for a single make-up private lesson at a reduced rate. Once a make-up lesson is scheduled, rescheduling is not possible, and no refunds will be granted for canceled make-up lessons.

Staff and Academics

• ISL instructors are native speakers of the target language or are fluent to native-speaker level.
• ISL will do the best to keep the same instructor for each class; however, may need to substitute in an equally qualified instructor from time to time.
• ISL does not guarantee that students will pass any tests or exams.
